Q: Why are the NPK numbers so low compared to regular fertilizers ?
A: Regular fertilizers (chemical and synthetics) are made to intentionally have very high NPK that are not found naturally.
Generally speaking, while there are macronutrients (NPK) present, organics and natural feeds are low in the measurable NPK as compared to synthetic fertilizers. However, due to the nature of organics, they don't need to be artificially spiked as they enable the plants and grasses to naturally uptake a much higher percentage of available nutrients and make better use of these nutrients with much lower runoff.
A simple way to look at this is to compare it to a person taking vitamin pills rather than eating good, healthy vegetables. The pills contain an artificially high amount of vitamins, usually much higher than can be found in a single serving of vegetables. However, it is most often much more than can be absorbed by a person and is thus the extra is wasted and excreted (If you’ve ever taken vitamins, you’ve no doubt noticed the unnatural color of your urine!) With fertilizers, the excess, unusable part is runoff into our rivers and streams, causing untold problems.
There are times when traditional fertilizers may be appropriate, of course. But even then, if you combine them with organics, you’ll be able to use of them and be more effective.
Q: What is the Shelf Life of your products?
A: Most of our products have an indefinite shelf life even after opening, assuming they are stored properly, - no direct sunlight, no extreme temperatures, tightly sealed cap etc. Be sure to only mix what you will be using immediately and store the unused portion properly.
Q: Do I need to 'Water-in" your products after applying?
A: For our liquid products, no. Its best to have at least a couple of hours to soak in before any rain. With daily rains this time of year, apply it very early morning so by the time the afternoon rains come, it will have had some time to set in.
Q: Can I harvest my garden vegetables after applying your products?
A: Most of our products are 'Zero-Harvest Interval" meaning you can pick immediately after application, if you like. However, as a broad statement, best to give 2-3 days after your last application before harvesting.
